Burger King’s Whopper Virgins

Posted on December 3, 2008

Burger King keeps making the advertising headlines. Only this week we told our French readers about Burger King’s "lost and found wallets".

Now we discovered the fast food giant’s latest coup: The Whopper Virgins. Presented in the style of a comprehensive report on the dedicated website Whopper Virgins, the idea is to search the four corners of the world for people who have never seen a whopper before. And to let them judge objectively and impartially – which one tastes better, the Big Mac or the Whopper?

You would probably not be able to find a less pre-influenced focus group. The results will be online in four days – so stay tuned!

Check out the teasing website to get an impression of the campaign (the images do remind us of the National Geographic…).

I’m not sure I like this campaign... I don’t think indigenous people should be used inthat way to amuse a bored public that wants a sensation at any price. Absolutely respectless.

Ignorance is bliss!? That would be the leitmotiv of the campaign i guess. Only drunks, children and some remote villagers from Ingusetia tell the truth. It’s all about respect. If the advertisers can keep that promise, I have nothing against a bit of a laugh. Although i don’t eat burgers, not anymore that is.

I’m surprised that none of these people get sick, unless they are already eating fast food. Once you stop eating food contaminated by massive amounts of negativity and not to mention hormones and such- the food makes you sick. Sure it tastes good but then these guys could take some of the most unhealthy crimes against the human body and soul taste good.... and they do. Yay!

Being a lifelong skateboarder, I’ve watched Stacy Peralta’s films since Animal Chin, through to his latest about gangs in LA. This Whopper thing isn’t comedy, and i love even the most crass comedy. This project thinks it’s being profound and sincere and “nice”. It made me sad on many levels. Frankly I’m done watching anything Mr. Peralta does. Hope the paycheck was big.

There’s a funny blog on freedomhaters.org on the Whopper Virgins commercial.

It ties it into Noam Chomsky and how the indigenous people on the commercials will most likely be forced to move to big cities when the fast food chains move in, and have to work for Burger King for a tenth of what American’s make.

Check it out here:
