Happy Flu—Go Viral, Go!
There’s a new web buzz called Happy Flu! After a quick investigation, we were finally able to pull the story apart…Happy Flu is none other than a study carried out by the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) about the way that buzz is able to spread across the Internet and the blogosphere! In other words, the study aims to better understand the way information is able to viralize.
The idea is simple: Happy Flu appears in the form of a Flash applet that can be inserted into your blog (click on the "Spread It!" button) via a randomly generated code.

All you need to do after that is enter your blog’s URL, then click on the website where you obtained the Happy Flu code. The widget will then add you to its database, which will allow it to (re)create its blog connection tree. You will automatically appear on this blog connection tree and will be attached to the blog where you first obtained the code.
This is a very easy way, in the end, to visualize the nodes that are created between blogs. To see the blog names, just click on the little dots. You can also see the number of clicks each dot has received.
And why was such an easy study carried out by CNRS researchers?
For several years, the spread of information has increased significantly thanks to the web and bloggers that sometimes take the place of traditional media outlets.
It’s precisely this change that CNRS is trying to understand: How is word of mouth spread? Happy Flu takes the role of a privileged observer for IT sciences.
However, there are several possible limitations to this study. The summer season’s slowdown of blog activity is certainly not ideal for this type of experiment. In addition, in contrast to classic mappings, this schema does not show the interaction between blogs. For example, a blogger is not limited to reading only one blog...
But, in any event, "Spread it, blog it!"
