IKEA Foregoes Banners for Free Facebook Love

To build buzz for its new store in Malmö, Sweden, IKEA used Facebook to make evangelists out of people who love themselves some free homemaking bricabrac.
It started by creating a Facebook profile for a store manager, then outfitting that profile with images of its showrooms. The first person to tag himself on a showroom item won it, the benefits being twofold: the new proprietor of the free stacking shelves would be all loyal and gushy, plus tagging himself on the IKEA image would expose the campaign to his entire personal network.
