Peacock Wine Advisor
Picking up a good bottle of wine for dinner is a great pleasure for many individuals. When invited to a friend’s house for dinner, a bottle of wine is the perfect present for any host.
However, for those who do not drink alcohol and who in turn know very little about wine, this can prove to be a challenging task. With the help of a sommelier this is quite easy, but what if I’m alone in front of a huge aisle of wines in the supermarket? What is the right wine for steak? Cheese? Dessert?
The Tokyo based supermarket chain Daimaru Peacock has put in place a great in store invention for people like myself, who do not know enough about wine to pick the right one for the right dish.
An electronic sommelier, "Peacock" wine adviser reads nearly any label and tells you everything about your bottle: where it is from, how it is made, the flavors, notes and what kinds of dishes it goes well with.
Like any other human invention, it has its flaws: you have to scan bar code after bar code until you find the right one for your dinner. Without getting grumpy it will supply information endlessly, unless you decide to give up and opt for water over wine.
