Social Networks Are For Parents, Too

At Vanksen, as you well know, we attribute a great deal of importance to social networks due to their preponderant place in communication, Web marketing, politics (Are Social Networks The New Demographic Model?) , entertainment, and job searching (When The Unemployed Get Busy Online).

At the inception however, only individuals were interested by them, in order to converse and share private information across distances. Thus, the young unwarned student generation uses this platform to share their interests, love life, and existential problems, and especially to share (sometimes depreciating) photos and videos without paying attention to the public nature of these sites.

As a result, some parents find it a more complicit way of conversing with their children. On the flip side, others may see it as a way of finding out more about their child’s personality... and they often discover a facet they never suspected. E-Mom explains:

It all depends on established family dynamics of course, but it is clear that both for children and for parents, becoming a Facebook or Twitter contact merits careful consideration...
