The World’s Biggest Zoetrope by Sony Bravia
A zoetrope? What’s that? Well, ladies and gentleman, it’s the precursor to the cinema. The idea behind a zoetrope is to make images inside a wheel spin fast enough that the viewer has the impression he/she is seeing one single, moving image.
The electronics giant Sony has taken a new look at the old system on a much larger scale and obtained the Guinness record for the world’s biggest zoetrope. The Sony Bravia Drome is 50 feet in diameter.
You’re probably asking yourselves what spectators in Turin, Italy got to see inside the zoetrope. None other than Brazilian soccer star Kaka juggling his soccer ball. While the image is a bit simplistic, the overall concept is interesting: “make something new from the old.” (cf. adcoholic).
Journalists and the Guinness World Records team were invited to the zoetrope’s opening night, which helped create added buzz about the street marketing operation.
