The .tel Universal Directory

Imagine the day people will be able to get in touch with you just by knowing your name or when calling someone will be as easy as heading to a website. This is the aim of the new .tel extension that will be launched on December 3.

What is the .tel extension? Isn’t there already a .mobi ?

The .tel extension allows any individual or company to collect all of its contact information in one place at one easy to remember URL. It’s the one-stop shop for all your contact details: telephone, fax, e-mail address, mailing address, websites, Skype, AIM, MSN, and the list can go on.

The .tel extension will allow a universal use of several different services. There are already similar applications for Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Outlook, and the iPhone. Without a doubt, this API is likely to interest developers.
