Wassup? Obama 2008

November 4th is just over a week away. The two presidential candidates have only a few more days to get their message out to voters. But, their supporters have only a few more days, too! Just last week we published a review of the best Obama campaign ads. As we’ve known for months now, Obama fans have also created some interesting Obama plugs (Babies for Obama, Obama Girl, etc).

In order to understand the latest plug, we have to go back to the 1999-2002 Budweiser Whassup? campaign. The Whassup? guys have made a wonderful parody of one of their Whassup? commercials in order to bring our attention to some of this election’s most important topics (health care, IRAQ, Hurricane Katrina, the financial crisis,…). As evidenced at the very end, the ad is a clear Obama endorsement. First off, let us remind you of the ad from 8 years ago:

The "Whassup?" ads created an overwhelming amount of buzz for Budweiser. If you are under the age of 40, don’t even try to pretend that you have NEVER said a Budweiser Whassup! It completely captivated us, and still can be heard across telephone signals nationwide. While we eventually saw the iconic brand wane, until eventually being bought up by a Belgian brewery, the ad will live on in spirit for years to come, as TV shows like SNL, movies like Scary Movie, and Internet users have seized on the concept for parody after parody after parody.

Now, eight years after the original ad, the Whassup guys have created their own parody. The video has been an instant hit and already has had almost 1.5 million views on YouTube. Additionally, the original Budweiser ad is reaching an entirely new young public, which just goes to show how some viral videos speak the everyone.
