"We sell guns!"

The possession of firearms is one of the touchiest subjects in the US and has been for years. Some think that bearing arms is a (patriotic) right while others fight to avoid more bloodshed in schools...

In light of all this, Stop Handgun Violence (SHV) has decided to make a strong and memorable statement regarding firearm legislation. Its latest communications campaign, run by Modernista!, is aimed at the NRA, possibly the most powerful political lobbying organization in the US. As we all know, the NRA is one of the biggest promoters of the free sale of firearms, firearm training and shooting sports.

So what does this campaign entail? Well, huge billboards following the famous "gun show" style have taken over Boston. The billboards criticize the weak firearm regulations in 32 US states, all with a bit of cynicism. Thanks to neon lights and eye-catching statements this is the final product:

In other words, what we have here is a "slap in the face" for the NRA, even if a campaign like this might be far from seriously worrying the lobbyist. Why? Because on Thursday, June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court itself reaffirmed the private right of each American to bear arms and, in particular, to use these arms in self-defense. The NRA’s interpretation of the Second Ammendment was confirmed by this decision, countering Washington DC’s complete arms ban...

SHV’s message has been spread via other equally shocking billboards:

Even though SHV still has a long road ahead in its fight, this campaign has created a good deal of buzz. It takes a lot of guts to put "terrorists" and "welcome" in the same sentence (especially in the US). On the other hand, you might complain that there is still no online plan to support this campaign. But perhaps this is only the start. So stay tuned...

a couple of points: 1) you still have to do background checks when buying from a licenced dealer at a gun show. The only time you don’t is when you are buying from a private person...exactly the same as transaction out of the newspaper where one person is selling his personal property. 2) AK-47 sounds and looks "scary" because it is the poster child of the anti-guners. Fact of the matter is it is not much different than a lot of semi auto guns. And whether is is a semi auto gun or a bolt action gun, dead is dead - do something about the murderers - not the knives, ligitures, clubs, hammers, baseball bats, or guns. Say it along with me..."guns don’t kill people, people kill people".

BOSTON. Home of American Liberty. Home of the war that defined freedom. And now, Stop Handgun Violence has to lie to try to scare people into NOT exercising their natural rights! Rights that thousands and thousands of veterans have earned for the people who want to take away your rights abuse on a dailey basis.

FACT: There is no "gun-show loophole"! Every registered and licensed gun dealer must follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of any weapon. They fill out all required forms, and must do a NICS background check. Just like in their stores! The only thing these people object to is the fact that every day private citizens may sell a weapon to another private citizen without a background check. Just like it is done hundreds of time a day in kitchens and garages all over the USA. What these organizations object to is YOU buying or selling a weapon without permission of the government. I have managed to live my life without the "blessings" of government for nearly 6 decades now, and I certainly don’t need them telling me what I can buy or sell.

I am not from MA, so I cannot be sure. But to stay within the law , I believe that each citizen must obtain permission from the state to even keep a gun in his home. What is next? Permission to shop for grocery’s from the government? Permission from the government to by fuel for an automobile so you can take a trip to NH or VT?

I don’t need these organizations! They are the ones who destroy freedom and security for the law ab iding citizens. I know! How about a 15 day waiting period before a story or opinion may be published, and it must be submitted to a government "moderator" to verify that it meets the government standards for what may be published!

Thank you Samuel Nirelep for the heads up on Stop Handgun Violence (SHV) latest shenanigans, their dishonest but well funded shenanigans. I say dishonest is that SHV,the Brady Bunch and others do tend to lie. As these people think their cause so just and righteous they are not bound by ethics of any kind but their own moral superiority.

So they believe, at least state, the NRA is America’s most powerful lobby; oh if that were only true. I will say that Samuel Nirelep, our fellow posters here and the Gun Nuts of America are more of a deterrent to crime and possibly terrorism than the Feel Good gun grabbers.

Be polite, be civil and carry the word. Just sometimes we catch a convert to the RKBA that way.

The writer mentions the D.C. v Heller Supreme Court case but gets the date wrong (should be June).

Are there any other “mistakes”?

Like perhaps, “[T]he NRA is one of the biggest promoters of ... survival training...”?

As a Jewess in the US, may I remind everyone that America wasn’t won with a registerd gun? And that criminals are stopped by FIREARMS, not by talk? That is why all REAL americans put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!

Got a slight typo in your text.

"The possession of firearms is one of the touchiest subjects in the Massachusetts and has been for years."

Most other states, not really all that touchy.

Lies and hyperbole is what many people want, thus these adds fill the bill. Stop Handgun Violence, the Brady Bunch, and many other anti-firearm groups can stoop to any level in seeking to strip the right of self-defense from law abiding citizens.

The truth is that law abiding citizens are not the problem, firearms are not the problem, criminals are the problem. And when our justice system has a revolving door, so that repeat offenders are allowed back on our streets, we can expect crime, especially, in our inner cities to be high.

Give the right of self-defense back to those same cities and see what happens to the crime rates against law-abiding citizens. Gangs may still kill each other as they do now, but crime against armed citizens will decline.
