YouTube Takes a Stab at Sponsored Videos

After buying YouTube in 2006, Google has been looking for any way it can to make good on the 1.65 billion dollars it paid for the site. It may just have found the solution:

Following the well established AdWords model found on Google search pages, advertisers can bid on keywords (and establish a maximum cost per click). With one slight difference: the users´ favorite videos will automatically be placed first. What a way to distribute content that the audience loves! YouTube´s initiative is likely to be offered by media agencies and platforms like GoViral, which could begin competing with YouTube immediately.

And what about YouTube video seeding?

This will make things a bit trickier for companies like Unruly Media and will increase Google’s hold on Internet sites at the same time as it creates traffic and brings in revenue. The good news is that platforms like BlogBlang, which has a great distribution network, will really bring some weight as competitors in the market.

I’d quite like to respond to the comment you made about us in this post but I’m struggling to figure out what point you’re making.

I don’t really see how YouTube’s sponsored video service is threatening to anyone in the market.

On the one hand, it will help validate a model that brands, ad agencies and media agencies are just beginning to get to grips with, to wit, the distribution of branded content, costed on a per engagement basis.

On the other, as you mention, for companies like GoViral, Feed Company and Unruly Media, YouTube’s sponsored video platform is a very welcome addition to the toolset.

And sure, BlogBang’s kind of cool. Go BlogBang, Go!

Hi Scott

Thanks a lot for your answer :-)

As of now... It isn’t threatening companies such as Unruly at all

Its when Google gonna begin video advertising (which i’m sure is in the pipes and will be launched anytime soon) that things are gonna change.

This will be interesting anyway. To me a threat doesnt mean the end of a service : I use unruly media, eBuzzing, BlogBang and I like them. If Google comes up with a similar offer, the only reason why i’d switch would be better prices ;))

Hope I answered your question,

BR

How will this eliminate/deal with the countless number of users who write false descriptions or tag videos with every popular term imaginable, even if it has nothing to do with the clip?
