A Viral Video for Hyperdunk - Nike

Nike knows how to create great viral videos. The brand turns to brand ambassador stars and makes sure that the video’s setting is truly viral and extraordinary that you rub your eyes and ask yourself: is that real or fake? The brand’s latest viral release in circulation on the web for a couple of days now is no exception to this rule having already caused a significant viral effect. It features Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant attempting an outrageous jump. Check it out!

So, fake or not? The answer is yes; of course it’s fake. Kobe Bryant would never accept to take such a risk for an advert. But this fake is so well done that probably everyone who watches it is confused at first, watches it again in slow motion to find evidence that the video has been “tweaked”, and then forwards it to friends (thus strengthening the viral effect).

The buzz is working marvelously, with close to 2 million views on YouTube alone, which proves to us that the clean, classic viral video is still alive and kicking. You just need to find the right tone of voice and use the right means. Nike understood this a while ago; we remember for example the video in which Cristiano Ronaldo races against a Bugatti Veyron. Another interesting fact is that Nike does not have misgivings about promoting other brands within its own brand communication (here it’s clearly identifiable as co-branding between Nike and Aston Martin).

This video might launch a new viral wave. Vanksen agency for example definitely saw some creative jumping this week. Here’s the proof in pictures and we can assure you that this one is not a fake!

Impressive, isn’t it? Now it’s your turn – send us your own video imitations!

Is this a real rooftop or is it a set on a studio lot? I don’t believe that the background is authentic and until I find out the actual location and buildings in the background it’s a studio lot to me.

Does anyone recognize the buildings? IF the location isnt real, then the car probably isnt real, and the entire spec is a fabrication. Doesn’t look like downtown LA to me...
