Blue Dot Tracks the Journeys of Chairs
The furniture architects at Blue Dot Studio used a combination of GPS and big brotherish video surveillance to illustrate:
o The intimate place furniture holds in people’s lives
o Its own benign, narrative-driven and innovative approach to product
In early November, the studio set 25 chairs of its own design on the streets of Manhattan. Naturally, people swooped them up and took them home. Each chair’s individual journey was recorded and followed — a curious series of expeditions that those inclined could also follow on Twitter. Finally, the chair-gatherers were hunted down and interviewed.
Above is a miniature documentary of the experience. It’s witty, playful and incredibly charming work. As Shareable put it:
"I love the way these people talk about how the chairs intersect with their lives, and the passionate way they speak of ’curb-mining’ and upcycling the things they find on the city streets."
Give it a watch; the project’s definitely given us a healthy curiosity about Blue Dot.
