Breaking News! Meth Still Deadly

Little has changed between drug PSAs past and present besides the means and the magic with which organizations broadcast the same scary refrain: your life will be ruined in a manner most nightmarish.

And if you’re buddies with a drug user? Worse still: there’s blood on your hands.

This particular dose of dire, all gritty and HD’ed-out, is brought to you by Venables Bell and Partners for The Meth Project. The campaign is called "Meth Not Even Once" and features spooky narratives from people who passively watched their friends spiral into Meth-laced disaster.

There’s the usual smattering of rape, betrayal and gouging non-existent bugs out of your skin with a dagger. But wow, check out all that lush CG! I smell a Bronze Lion!

There are more intelligent ways to talk to users besides scaring them until peer pressure seduces them back into whatever nasty habit they’ve shied from, but campaign results seem to indicate progress. In Montana, which ranks #39 in the US for Meth abuse, teen and adult use declined by 63% and 72%, respectively, between now and ’05.

Visit the Montana Meth website for more details. Note the cheery banners that greet you upon entry: "My friends and I share everything. Now we share hepatitis and HIV."

Well, that’s charming. Another variant we quite like: "Before Meth I had a daughter. Now I have a prostitute."
