Call of Duty 4: Dictators viralise a video game
For the promotion of the new version of Call of Duty, a video game in the style of FPS in which you get a glimpse of what modern warfare is like, the editor Activision has turned to DDB agency in Los Angeles for the creation of viral videos.
The result is a minisite, of a deliberately poor graphic quality, where you can find videos parodying political leaders who “test” the game, wallpapers and icons.

However, this is far from being the first campaign to use that kind of protagonists (see the campaigns for amnesty international, hell pizza, chopstix, ...) but the message might not be easily understandable for the general public.
In the case of Call of Duty 4, it’s all about a game simulating war, so the idea to use political personalities to spread an offbeat message might be regarded as amusing. Still, I am not sure if everyone will understand that kind of humour.
Activision, on their part, have tried to delimitate the viral effect of these videos by only publishing them in form of streaming. The videos on YouTube have been deleted.
