Come as you are: McDonald’s Viral Video

McDonald’s France just released viral videos as part of a pre-campaign launch for a new image campaign. The new campaign’s slogan is “Come as you are.” McDonald’s and its agency BETC have created some funny "French man in the street" viral videos in which newly-hired McDonald’s bouncers tell unsuspecting customers that they can’t get into McDonald’s “looking like that.” If you’re interested in seeing one of these French videos, click here. Warning: the heavy focus on McDonald’s might turn you away.

This 11 million euro " Venez comme vous êtes " ("Come as you are") campaign for McDonald’s France is likely to be a very successful 360 degree campaign. It includes:
- Pre-campaign launch viral videos,
- 4 videos (45 seconds and 30 seconds in length),
- print advertising,
- 32,000 4x3m size posters

Check out McDonald’s France’s new “Come as you are” TV ad:

This begs the question…do they not have the same “No shirt, no shoes, no service” rule in France? I can’t help but wonder if “come as you are” really does mean you can show up in your birthday suit or wearing just basketball shorts as the ad implies.

Hi Baptiste, interesting post. Im keen to learn how large brands can use viral in youth marketing positively. There are plenty of examples I’ve blogged about where it’s gone horribly wrong and, refreshing, a few where it’s gone very well. In particular, EA’s Jesus Shot response on Youtube was perhaps one of the best in a long time - blogged (see my URL)
