Do the green Thing!

Launched in October, Green Thing is an online community for fighting climate change by inviting everyone to behave in a more ecological way.

The umpteenth organisation, you say?

Yes, but this time it is all about humour and offbeat fun… which changes things a lot!

Every month the community members have to accomplish a task. In October, doing the “green thing” was walking instead of taking the car.

To motivate the members there are original short video clips, photos and songs, produced every month by the most creative talents of the moment.

There is also a walkcast with a poem written by Stuart Delves, a Green Thing Podcast featuring a song by the U2 producers Howie B and Paul Gathercole of Universal Records, a Green Thing creature designed by super designer Pete Fowler…

The list of Green Thing participants is long and everybody who wants to can contribute.

In November the green thing to do is explained in this excellent video produced by Matt Lipsey of TBWA London: the "cock-rock" (or how to dance wearing only a fluorescent condom…

The message is clear: switch off the lights!

Whenever they do a “green thing”, the members announce this on the website. At the end of the month we get to know the amount of CO2 that the community has saved that way.

An intelligent and amusing idea... let’s do the green thing!
