Jack Link’s Beef: Innovative Augmented Reality
Augmented reality? This is the technology that in recent times is guaranteed to give you some buzz. We have already spoken of it through the example of Lego. The brand created a buzz that was hard to ignore through this technology.
This time, it’s a...beef jerky...company that has created its own augmented reality module, and it seems to have some true value. Until now, besides for the initial surprise of seeing a 3 dimensional object appear on your screen, it was very easy to get bored while using augmented reality modules because of their lack of interactivity. This time, however, through its Living Sasquatch website, Jack Link’s allows for a Yeti to appear on your desk and for you to be able to control it via different actions. Where this becomes truly interesting, is that the user has the capability of creating new moves by combining already available actions and recording them through a short film function. This is a testament to the power of UGC (User Generated Content), as the imagination of the user sometimes surpasses that of the creator. Some users have gone as far as to print a giant tag to be able to interact with their Yeti in life size (I’ll let you find them in the video gallery...)
I myself tested the application by staging a battle between my Yeti and my faithful desktop Scratchy:
As you see, I had to upload the video myself on Dailymotion to be able to share it. This is the only real weakness of the Living Sasquatch application: the videos are not directly embeddable but are nonetheless downloadable...
