Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates - Episode 2

Just last week we mentioned Microsoft’s latest campaign to save Vista. The $300 million campaign is endorsed by Jerry Seinfeld and is overseen by Crispin Porter and Bogusky.

The campaign’s first commercial which took place in a discount shoe store, did not win over many bloggers. Well now, its second attempt brings us Jerry and Bill, best friends forever after their first brief encounter and a bonding shoe shopping experience. This time, however, they are living with a host family.

Unlike the first commercial, which was as short as it was confusing, this one is more creative and plays with a sitcom like idea. It’s a short of sorts that lasts about four minutes and thirty seconds.

The verdict? It’s less convoluted and funnier, even though it’s longer. Here and there we are reminded of "The Simple Life" with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie traveling through the American back roads by doing odd jobs. The difference? The young spoiled rich girls milking cows have been replaced with young retirees filling a swimming pool with water...

But what are Bill and Jerry doing in this house? What is the point of it all? Well, the commercial doesn’t really make it clear. It doesn’t reveal anything until the very end when we are made aware that this is yet another commercial for Vista, disappointing viewers once again.

Nonetheless, Microsoft seems to have changed its approach and succeeded in convincing us...that Bill Gates is a talented actor. One question remains: who should get out while the going is good, Bill or Vista?

Now, if only Vandelay Industries would hire Jerry to promote their latex products...THAT partnership would rock! "And you want to buy MY latex products."
