New Angles Introduced to Reality Show Voyeurism
Imagine if the prototype cast of The Real World had ambitions, was slightly more glamorous and infinitely more self-entitled.
What’ve you got? Simon Fuller’s new reality show, If I Can Dream!
In tandem with 19 Entertainment and agency Poke/New York, the show is composed of five "aspiring stars" living together in LA. Their every gesture is committed to immortality by the 50+ cameras set up around the house, affording eager viewers a 360-degree glimpse of their long road to the middle fame.
MySpace will be hosting auditions for those that want to be part of this gaudy glass menagerie, presently being marketed as an "interactive cultural experiment" or — my personal favourite — a quest for fame on multiplatform steroids.
The million-dollar question: will it beat the Jersey Shore melée? That’s like asking whether people prefer gritty self-interested camera exhibitionists over polished ones. How do you even start to choose?
