Recognizr App IDs Strangers from Afar

More proof we’re living in super-freaky times: it won’t be long before you’re at a party, being all chic and wallflowerlike, when suddenly one or two people walk up to you. They know your name, what you do for a living. Maybe they’ll be all, "Hey, [Jude]!" and just dive into conversation about something you like.

You’re reading this and going, "Pfff, that’s cheesy futurist talk." Not so much. Say hello to Recognizr, an app by Swedish mobile software firm The Astonishing Tribe (@TATMobileUI), which proposes to lead us into a new era: "augmented identity."

How it works: with the app on, hold your phone up to a person’s face. The demo suggests it works better with full-frontal versus side shots. After a few moments of processing, Recognizr will produce any social network profiles that person has made public: their Facebook, flickr, Twitter — essentially anything where a profile of their real faces has appeared.

As a preemptive strike against invasive data mining, users must opt into the service and upload a photo and profile for the system to be able to identify them. But hey, all that just goes for this app. If it shows promise, privacy-lax copycat apps are sure to follow.

Recognizr is only available for phones with 5-megapixel cameras running Android OS. Keep an eye out for an iPhone 3GS release soon.

I think this is a fantastic idea, but in reality, the watchdogs, the anit piracy masses, will kick this to the ground, personally i think is pushing the app trend to its limits, which is a good thing, Now, where can i get the Recognizr App.
