Republic of Bacon Fuels Existing Bacon Zeal

From what we can tell, it’s the intention of RepublicofBacon.com to give bacon lovers a safe, accepting place to manipulate their meat of choice in magnificent new ways.

And it’s not like bacon really needed that; it’s probably the meat that inspires the most pop culture love. You’ve got Bacon Salt, for one, and bacon bikini picture forums (NSFW), not to mention the bloody Royal Bacon Society which is pushing things like bacon scarves and other accoutrements of anti-artery warfare.

Maybe it’s because bacon-zeal’s so relevant in the culture that this effort’s appealing. Natch, you’ve got the site above to engage in a weirdly fixated community, but in addition you’ve got these ads that, in their own special ways, compare the value of bacon to the value of self-care, engagement rings and cars.

Curious work by john st./Toronto for Maple Leaf Bacon. Be sure to check out the various delights of the online Republic, including the casino and the red light district. O_O

You can argue that it’s pretty analog to staple a microsite to a TV campaign, but it’s interesting that what they tried to do was construct an ideal universe for fanatics united by bacon. Whether it can be considered a viable social media campaign at all, I guess, depends on whether anyone who proclaims loyalty to the bacon camp is willing to hang out in bacontopia.

If the hype wins your heart though, there’s an anthem too.

Acting/directing problem with "Sorry." Kurt gets all choked up but it’s hard to tell whether it’s the bacon, the car or Rachel. Nice performances in "Proposal."
