Wall-E, Please Stop Kleer-E!
Before I begin, I want to assure you, this article is not going to spoil the movie’s ending.
Pixar’s new animated film Wall-E is set in the distant future when the Earth is barren of all life forms and humans have survived only by leaving the wasted planet to live in outer space. The message from Wall-E is clear: Let’s go green. And now, Wall-E and Greenpeace are running a campaign to ban Kleenex and protect forests. Greenpeace tells us "Kimberly-Clark is working to bring you that world, one box of Kleenex — and one forest — at a time," with lovely animation.
So you can understand why I laughed at Pixar’s ironic behavior: it went against the movie’s very message! How? Well, Pixar gave out huge bags containing a large, programmable Wall-E robot toy and a copy of the Wall-E game to journalists. It decorated cinemas all around the world with big Wall-E figures made from eco-unfriendly paper and plastics.
Maybe it’s time for butchers to become vegetarians.
Love and love for the earth are the two main messages from Wall-E. And pretty much everyone loves the movie’s characters. Wall-E is such a charming figure with his little squeaky voice and eyes that move up and down, and his little violent lover Eve is cute too. As Devin Faraci wrote on his blog, it’s amazing to think that children will get the following message:
"Hey kids! The Earth is important, and we should protect it. Remember this by buying lots of bad for the environment Wall-E plastic objects! Also, it’s bad to sit around and eat poorly - you should enjoy the world around you! You can remember this by buying the Wall-E video game, or any of the Wall-E action figures! And also, following advertising is for suckers, and you should have an independent mind. Prove how independent you are with your new Wall-E clothes!"
So Wall-E, I mean, Pixar, why not do what you’ve done in one part of your business in every other part?
