Suzuki SX4 vs Mini!

Posted on November 4, 2008

The new Suzuki SX4 ad boasts the merits of the car à la superhero. The Suzuki SX4’s direct competitor is unquestionably the well-known Mini. How to fight against the lack of brand awareness in the face of your competitor? Why not try comparative advertising? That’s just what they’ve done, with a little bit of Jack Black-like humor rolled in. Check out this MIGHTIER THAN THE MINI ad.

As you can see, the film’s message about the advantages of the Suzuki SX4 comes through loud and clear. Riding the superhero wave, the creators have done a good job at playing the “humor” card to get their point across. While the message is clear, we have to wonder if this was really the best way to go against a competitor whose product line is markedly better? We doubt it.

This use of humor to try to to lighten the tone of a comparative ad reminds us of the famous "Get a Mac" ads. For your viewing pleasure, here’s a compilation of these very loved ads.
