TweetReach Calculates Reach of RT’ed Links

Ever wonder about the practical value of a tweet? Now there’s an app for that.

Plug a link, phrase, hashtag or screen name into TweetReach to get a read on the reach it’s achieved via tweets and retweets. It doesn’t just tell you how many users passed it around; it estimates many people were exposed to the information as a result.

The data above is for a shortened link to this strategic planner job ad for Vanksen. It stands to reason that media job tweets will likely get retweeted more often than ordinary tweets, given that Twitter is saturated by industry folk. But the site’s helpful nonetheless: it breaks down who spread the info, and how many followers each has. Our link enjoyed in an approximate 24,996 impressions: that’s 16,215 people reached over a spread of about 50 tweets. Accompanying pie charts break down tweet "types" (retweets, ordinary tweets, replies) and overall exposure.

TweetReach’s makers (Appozite, to be exact) also ain’t dumb: the site will provide free data for a maximum of 50 tweets, but to get the good stuff you need to buy a complete report. The site promises to email you a PDF version of the report within 24 hours, and estimates how many tweets in total will be incorporated. In the case of the Vanksen job offer, it’d be about 63. (Varies by link.)

We didn’t buy the report, but if you did, feel free to share impressions. Overall though, while TweetReach’s calculations may be slightly suspect (whose aren’t?), it still makes a handy PowerPoint companion for marketers seeking to justify the social media leap to numbers-thirsty superiors.

Who doesn’t like a pie chart? ...especially when you don’t have to make it yourself?
