When Toscani Fights Anorexia... (Italy)

The fashion week starts in Milano, and at the same time walls and journals in Italy are featuring a shocking advert produced by the famous Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani.

The topic of the billboard campaign: the mental illness anorexia.

Published by the Italian clothing brand Nolita, the advertisement that is meant to fight anorexia has created a heated debate in Italy and generated an enormous amount of buzz throughout the world.

The young actress who has agreed to display her emaciated body marked by anorexia for this campaign is 27-year-old Isabelle Caro. The objective is to raise awareness of the illness with young girls who are often influenced by fashion trends. The young French woman has been suffering from this eating disorder since the age of 13 and explains her illness on her blog.

"Toscani has literally stripped his subject to show the world by this naked body what this illness really looks like. In most cases it has been caused by role models from the world of fashion,“ explains Nolita.

For those who do not remember, here is a sample of the famous advertisements by Benetton, also created by Toscani, which also addressed issues that are rarely raised, such as AIDS or racism, here symbolised by capital punishment.

Indeed, for Toscani, there seem to be no taboos.
