ArcelorMittal Invites its Shareholders Live to Second Life

After the launch of the second season of its Web TV, ArcelorMittal once again shows its fondness for social media by inviting potential shareholders live to Second Life. In fact, June 17th was the official inauguration of ArcelorMittal’s virtual facilities. They used the opportunity to present the company’s group figures to shareholders.

The meeting took place in a virtual building shaped like the group’s logo via virtual video screen. Shareholders, potential investors, and journalists all attended the virtual meeting, which was hosted by M. Lakshmi N. Mittal, the group’s Chairman and CEO and M. Julien Onillon, head of Investor Relations. The virtual attendees were able to interact with the hosts and get to know ArcelorMittal in a very unconventional way. Numerous digital publications such as the company’s Annual Report, Activity Report, and Fact Book were available at this virtual meeting with just a click of the mouse.

Around 70 avatars attended this ultra-modern meeting, and around 300 connections to the meeting center were registered over the course of the day. Thanks to this initiative, ArcelorMittal has made a name for itself as a true pioneer in communication with individual shareholders. Their goal is to make this virtual meeting center long-term and to give current and potential shareholders a way to interact with the company, regardless of nationality or place of residence.

What’s the main goal of this operation? To present ArcerolMittal’s figures to shareholders able to attend the Luxembourg meeting, but also to grab the attention of shareholders the world over. What better way to reach an expansive target than to bring them into today’s most en vogue virtual world?

The island will be online for a minimum of two months, which should stir up the curiosity of some potential shareholders. This project confirms ArcelorMittal’s commitment to open dialogue and to new technologies.
